The Markham Guild of Village Crafts was founded in the spring of 1971, as an organization to encourage the preservation of traditional crafts while embracing new methods and techniques.

Over the years, the Guild has grown in size and has called numerous locations in  Markham home before finally settling in its current location at 11 Church Street in the early 1990s.

Markham Guild of Village Crafts has served the community of Markham and surrounding areas by offering classes in a variety of craft disciplines. The Guild has participated by demonstrating crafts at community events such as the Markham Village Festival, Markham Fair, Unionville Festival, Applefest, and the Farmer's Market, to name just a few.

Our teachers are highly skilled in their area of crafting and many are award-winners in competitions across North America. The Markham Guild is unique in that it is one of the few multi-media guilds in Ontario that is able to offer its members and the communities it serves a choice of craft opportunities.

About Us

Our goal is to preserve the crafting traditions of the past through teaching and also to explore and create new crafting styles for the future.

In 2004, Markham Guild of Village Crafts was the proud recipient of a grant from The Ontario Trillium Foundation. The grant enabled the Guild to purchase new equipment that enhances our services to the community through teaching. In the interest of serving the community better we are always changing and revising the lists of crafts that are taught at the Guild.
